Car enthusiasts from across the country had gathered with their prized vehicles to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Route 66. However, the event took a turn for the worse when the thieves struck, leaving several car owners with damaged or stolen vehicles.

The total value of the stolen and damaged vehicles is estimated to be between $60,000 and $90,000 each. The Joliet Police Department is investigating the incident and believes that the thefts were part of a coordinated operation. The owners of the stolen vehicles were still in possession of their keys, suggesting that the thieves may have used sophisticated electronic methods to gain access to and start the vehicles.
One of the stolen vehicles, the 2017 Corvette Z06, was later recovered in nearby Dolton after it was involved in a crash.
