Bentley has unveiled the first official image and revealed the name of its upcoming electric crossover, the Torcal. The Torcal is set to be fully revealed on September 23, but for now, details are limited. What we do know is that it's approximately 16 feet long, has a range of more than 300 miles, and that Bentley says it's its "most considered Bentley: every single decision, element and characteristic has the customer at its core."
As for the visuals, the teaser image shared by Bentley shows its rear hatch and taillights, which have a crystal-like, quilted pattern throughout their slim-rectangle shape. The crossover's looks in the rear right-quarter skew somewhere between its Volkswagen Group sibling, the Porsche Cayenne, and the Range Rover Velar. It has wide rear wheel arches that are distinctive and bring strong character to the EV.
The front-end is distinctly Bentley. The Torcal has a more squared-off front-end—sharper than its older, gas-powered brother, the Bentayga. There are hard angles, sharp daytime-running lights, and, aside from a lack of rounded headlights, a face that feels freshly in line with the Flying Spur and Mulsanne sedans. Its roots are unmistakable. And, yes, it has a grille.
On the inside, the quality remains top-notch. The materials—the woods, metals, fabrics, leathers, and glass crystals—are of high quality and innovative. There are physical buttons, but no shortage of tech, either. I was impressed from my brief experience inside the SUV.
Bentley says this EV follows the Bentayga, Bacalar, and Batur in the line of names borrowed from natural landmarks. Specifically, this one is named after El Torcal de Antequera in Andalusia, Spain.
