Rivian has discontinued the Dual Motor Standard Pack for its 2026 R1T and R1S models, resulting in a $7,000 price increase for the base models. However, the standard range has been increased by 59 miles. The Dual Motor Large pack models are now the new entry-level options, with the 2026 R1T pickup starting at $81,885 and the R1S Dual Motor Large SUV starting at $85,885.
The Standard-pack models had a maximum EPA-estimated driving range of 270 miles, while the Large versions can go up to 329 miles. This change was not entirely unexpected, as Rivian had previously announced that the Dual Standard was being phased out. The move creates more space between the R1 and R2 lineups, potentially paving the way for more expensive R2 models in the future.
For reference, the most expensive R2 model, the Performance with Launch Edition, is fully loaded and starts at $59,485. It features the Long Range battery and has an estimated range of up to 330 miles on a charge. If you're interested in purchasing a Dual Standard model, you may still be able to find one in Rivian's current inventory.
Rivian's decision to discontinue the Dual Motor Standard Pack may have been influenced by the company's plans to expand its lineup and create more differentiation between its models. As the electric vehicle market continues to evolve, manufacturers are constantly assessing their offerings and making adjustments to stay competitive.
