QuantumScape, a leading developer of solid-state batteries, has partnered with Honda to advance the development of these batteries. This collaboration is expected to last several years and will focus on improving the energy density and safety of solid-state batteries. QuantumScape is known for its partnership with Volkswagen, but this new partnership with Honda marks a significant step forward in the development of solid-state batteries.

The two companies will work together to develop QuantumScape's QS-Battery platform, which is designed to provide a high level of energy density and safety. Honda R&D, a subsidiary of Honda Motor, will be the primary partner in this collaboration. The partnership will involve a multi-year research and development program, with a focus on developing solid-state batteries and the manufacturing processes associated with them.

According to QuantumScape, the partnership with Honda is a significant milestone in the development of solid-state batteries. The company's CEO, Dr. Siva Sivaram, stated that Honda's evaluation of QuantumScape's technology was one of the most rigorous to date, and that the partnership reflects the growing confidence in QuantumScape's solid-state lithium-metal batteries. These batteries have the potential to provide safer and more efficient energy storage, with higher energy density and faster charging times.

The QSE-5 battery, which is QuantumScape's first commercial product, has a capacity of 5 Ah, an energy density of over 844 Wh/l, and can charge from 10% to 80% in just 12.2 minutes. This battery is expected to be used in a variety of applications, including electric vehicles. QuantumScape has already begun delivering B1 samples of the QSE-5 battery to customers, although the company has not disclosed who these customers are.
