Porsche has reclaimed the Nurburgring EV record with its Taycan Turbo GT, beating the previous record holder by almost four seconds. The Taycan Turbo GT, equipped with the Weissach Pack and Manthey Kit, achieved a lap time of 6:55.553 minutes, driven by Porsche development driver Lars Kern. This impressive feat is even more remarkable considering the Taycan Turbo GT has only about one-third of the power of the previous record holder, the 3,000-horsepower Yangwang U9 Xtreme.

Lexus has also made headlines with the introduction of its new three-row electric SUV, the TZ. Built on the same platform as the new electric-only Toyota Highlander, the TZ promises 300 miles of range and standard dual-motor all-wheel drive, producing 338 horsepower. Pricing and other details are expected to be announced later this year, with the TX set to hit dealerships in late 2026.

Porsche's success at the Nurburgring didn't stop with the Taycan Turbo GT. The Golf GTI Edition 50 has become the fastest front-wheel-drive production car at the Nurburgring, with a lap time of 7:44.523 minutes. Meanwhile, Volkswagen has increased its stake in Rivian, becoming the electric truck and SUV maker's largest investor with a 15.9% stake. Rivian is also exploring pickup and high-performance variants of its new R2 model.

In other news, Polestar reported a loss of $383 million in the first quarter of the year, despite improved sales. The company is working to expand its product lineup and increase its global presence. As the automotive industry continues to evolve, it will be interesting to see how these developments shape the future of electric vehicles and the companies that produce them.
