Ferrari completely overhauled the SF90 Stradale to give it a geometric, retro-futuristic makeover that took years to put together. Among the sea of other supercars in Monterey this week, Ferrari unveiled the CZ26, a one-off car built to channel 1970s industrial vibes.
Put your wallets away, though. This car was a two-year collaboration between Ferrari and a client with a very specific vision. It started with an SF90 Stradale. The plug-in hybrid supercar makes a combined 986 horsepower from a V-8 engine and three electric motors, which mate to an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Ferrari says the SF90 can reach 62 mph in just 2.5 seconds.
Straight from the factory, the SF90 Stradale sports a gently rounded front end, angular, pointed headlights, and a vented hood near the front bumper. The intakes rest in the fender above the rear wheel, and the Ferrari mid-mounted engine is displayed through a glass panel surrounded by black trim.
View Price on AmazonBut someone had a better idea of how to style it—and the money to back it up. In collaboration with its client, Ferrari overhauled the SF90 and clothed it in a retro-futuristic garb inspired by 1970s Italian industrial design. The CZ26’s front end is completely reworked. A custom hood shows a peek of a red interior frunk through thin vertical cutouts near the windshield.
The CZ26 has a squarer jawline than its SF90 relative, and instead of angular headlights, the CZ26 wears small, thin light LEDs that blend into the bumper’s trim. The CZ26 opts for angular, geometric wheels and squares off its side body panels. The SF90’s swooping roofline and rounded fenders remain, blending the client’s desire for industrial shapes with the Ferrari’s original silhouette.
At the rear, the engine bay takes on a squarer shape. Most of the rear is shrouded in black trim, and the engine window is tinted extremely dark. The CZ26’s taillights mimic the horizontal headlights, and the Ferrari prancing horse rests between two titanium exhaust pipes.
The car is drenched in a liquid-looking silver paint, and red accents appear on the hood, within the bottom part of the bumper, on the brake calipers, and in the rear fender intakes. Inside, red detailing in the seats breaks up an otherwise black interior.
The CZ26 will be on display at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance this weekend, but unlike some of its neighbors at the event, it’s not on the market. It’ll go home to the client that started the process more than two years ago, for undoubtedly a lofty sum of money.
