The Lamborghini Urus is currently available with a plug-in hybrid V-8 powertrain, and it is likely that this will remain the case. However, the upcoming model is expected to feature more power and improved aerodynamics. If you are in the market for a Lamborghini Urus, you are in luck, as the exotic SUV is about to get a new variant that will spice things up a bit.
A teaser image shared on Lamborghini's social media channels shows the shrouded rear end of a lime-colored Urus. The image reveals a prominent spoiler rising from the lip of the rear liftgate, along with a low-profile wing that extends from the SUV's roofline. The company wrote on Twitter: "A new chapter is taking shape. Join us live on lamborghini.com and YouTube. July 1st. Save the Date."
When the Urus first went on sale for the 2019 model year, it was powered by a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 pumping out 641 horsepower, enough to catapult it to 60 mph in 3.1 seconds. By the time 2023 rolled around, the Urus's engine output was bumped to 657 ponies, and a track-tuned Performante variant joined the party with a unique suspension, larger wheels and race-grade rubber, and a diet regimen that lowered its weight.
Flash forward to 2026, and every Urus still has a V-8, only it's assisted by an electric motor that together combine for a whopping 789 hp. While Lamborghini has said all future performance derivatives will be hybrids, we fully expect the forthcoming Urus to adopt the Performance philosophy, even if it goes by a different name.
