Jeep didn't give an exact timeline for when the new Trailhawk will go on sale, but it'll likely arrive for the 2027 model year. Jeep's popular Cherokee nameplate rejoined the brand's lineup for the 2026 model year, sporting a new look and a hybrid powertrain under the hood. However, when the sixth-generation compact SUV debuted last year, one variant was conspicuously absent: the popular Trailhawk trim.
While Jeep previewed the off-road-oriented version with the Cherokee Upland concept back in March at the annual Easter Jeep Safari event in Moab, Utah, it has now finally confirmed the Trailhawk's return. Speaking exclusively with Car and Driver, a Jeep spokesperson shared this statement: "Following full information of the 2027 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk and Overland this month, the Jeep brand is gearing up for more off-road capability with the Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk. The brand continues to listen to customers and return capability to the core of the brand's ethos. More information will come at a later date."
View Price on AmazonDespite not sharing any specific details about the next-gen Cherokee Trailhawk, Jeep released a teaser image showing portions of its front end. Like the Upland concept, black fills the area between the headlights and grille and the front bumper, which has exposed red-painted tow hooks. We can't see the Cherokee's chin, but if history and the concept's design carry over, the Trailhawk should have a better approach angle than its siblings. The production model could also share the Upland concept's 18-inch wheels that wear 32-inch Falken Wildpeak all-terrain tires.
We expect Jeep to share full information about the new Cherokee Trailhawk in the coming months, as we think it will go on sale sometime later this year, likely as a 2027 model. So stay tuned.
