The 2026 American-Made Index is out, and the results may surprise you. Of the top 10 cars in the index, only four come from traditionally American manufacturers - two Teslas and two Jeeps. The remaining six spots are taken by Toyotas and Hondas.
Honda's Accord has been built in the US for decades and frequently appears on lists of cars built in America with American-made parts. The Toyota Camry, its traditional competitor, fell to #11 this year. The Jeep Grand Cherokee made a significant jump, moving from #70 to #6, likely due to the removal of the plug-in hybrid 4xe model and its overseas-sourced battery.
Many of the entries on the list aren't surprising, but some notable exceptions include the Ford Mustang, which often ranks high, and the Lincoln Navigator, which is the first "big" SUV on the list at #12. The Ford Expedition follows at #13, while GM's full-size SUVs occupy positions 36-39. The Jeep Grand Wagoneer brings up the rear at #44.
Of the approximately 350 cars for sale in the US in 2026, Cars.com narrowed its list to just 86 built or produced somewhere in America. The lack of big, American trucks in the top 10 may come as a surprise to some, but it's not just the rankings that are interesting - it's also the perception of American-made vehicles. When asked which vehicles they thought were built in the US, the overwhelming majority chose the Ford F-150, with 71% of consumers believing it to be American-made.
However, the F-150 isn't even the most-American full-size pickup on the list. That honor goes to the Toyota Tundra, sitting at #16. The F-150 checks in at #27 and #26 (Hybrid and Non, respectively), and the Ram 1500 lands at #55. The GMC Sierra and Chevy Silverado are way down at #78 and #82, respectively.
