Ferrari raised $40 million for charity via a Luce featuring color-shifting paint and a unique cabin. Ferrari’s charity just scored $40 million for a car its buyer won’t even receive until next year. A bespoke ‘Tailor Made’ 2026 Ferrari Luce, identified as “Chassis 0” and described as the first production chassis from the Luce program, sold at an RM Sotheby's auction in Monterey on Saturday for exactly $40 million.
That makes this example of the controversial electric Italian four-door an enormously expensive Ferrari even by most charity-auction standards. The auction house waived the buyer’s premium, meaning all $40 million is headed to The Ferrari Foundation. The recognized 501(c)(3) charity says it will use the funds for future educational initiatives.
The car itself, meanwhile, is headed back to Maranello before its scheduled first-quarter 2027 delivery. According to the listing, this isn’t simply an early Luce in a special color. Ferrari Tailor Made developed the car around the idea of light. The exterior paint is called Madreperla Semi-Gloss. It uses a dedicated pigment that supposedly shifts from green to violet depending on the angle and intensity of the light.
Ferrari paired that pearlescent finish with an interior upholstered in Perla Le Mans metallic leather, a material made from selected Swiss hides and developed for the Tailor Made program. Secondary cabin pieces that would normally be black instead wear Grigio Corvara, while the car also gets dedicated wheels, bespoke brake calipers, and a Ferrari logo set against an optical-white background.
The automaker says the complexity of applying the paint means no two examples will look quite the same. Could that be a bit of marketing? Sure, but there's no question that the process is a painstaking one. It also makes this car just that much more unique beyond its first-ever status.
