Dodge Unveils 750-Horsepower Drift-Spec Chargers with Manual Transmissions

Dodge revealed a pair of one-off Chargers that transformed the standard Scat Pack models into drifting machines. In just 60 days, a team of custom fabricators turned a 550-horsepower, all-wheel-drive, automatic-equipped Charger into a rear-wheel-drive, manual Charger that harnesses 750 horsepower.

The team, which included Mike Musto, director of programming at Hemmings, and Suppy Wejpanich of Suppy's Garage, built two drift cars based on the Charger Scat Pack with Dodge's high-output Hurricane twin-turbo 3.0-liter straight-six. A two-door model, dubbed the BOOST Coupe, was built strictly for performance, while the four-door Rapid People Mover (RPM) intends to carry passengers in drift demos.

While they started as stock Chargers, the only thing that remains untouched seems to be the windshield. The stock six-cylinder engines, which typically make 550 horsepower, have been given an aggressive boost. Both cars now claim to make at least 750 horsepower.

The two-door coupe's factory twin-turbo system was converted into a high-output single-turbo setup, and custom parts replace the stock intake and exhaust systems. The four-door taxi was also fitted with a custom intake system and sports new cooling parts. Its twin turbos remain, albeit highly modified.

Those powerful engines are joined to manual transmissions that power the rear wheels, contrary to the Charger's standard all-wheel-drive and automatic-transmission configuration. Standard suspension and chassis parts have been replaced with heavy-duty, drift-specific fitments, and the steering geometry is altered for better control in a skid. Inside, production interiors were stripped and replaced with racing seats, roll cages, and multipoint harnesses.

The hi-po twins got an exterior makeover too. Both wear custom hoods, wider front and rear fenders, unique rear wings, and subtle aerodynamic touches all over. They're wrapped in liveries that combine the Charger's new Purple Haze color with traditional racing and drifting graphics.

These custom Chargers will be shown at Roadkill Nights on Aug. 8 in Pontiac, Michigan, alongside Dodge's new Charger Super Bee, which features the same high-output Hurricane engine that's been revised to boost its standard 550 horsepower up to 600.
