Cadillac is recalling over 14,000 Vistiq EVs due to a child-trapping risk in the third-row seats. The recall affects 2026 and 2027 model year vehicles, with a total of 14,540 units affected. The majority of the affected vehicles, 13,629, are from the 2026 model year.
The problem lies in the third-row power-folding seatback function, which may not properly react if an occupant or object is placed on the seat. During testing, General Motors found that the seatbacks would stop folding when they detected a 33- to 40-pound object on the seat, but would not return to the upright position, potentially trapping a child.
General Motors is aware of six incidents or complaints that are potentially associated with this issue, in addition to the vehicle that was tested in-house. To fix the problem, owners will have to wait for a replacement third-row seat module, which will be installed free of charge at the dealer. However, the part is not yet available, and in the meantime, the third-row folding feature will be disabled.
Once the improved module is ready, the feature will be reinstated through a separate campaign. Inventory cars have already had the feature disabled, according to General Motors. The new module will automatically return the third-row seatbacks to the upright position if they encounter loads that are strong enough to stop the folding procedure.
