Cadillac Recalling Over 14,000 Vistiq SUVs Due to 3rd-Row Seat Safety Concerns

Cadillac is recalling more than 14,000 model year 2026 and 2027 Vistiq SUVs due to a defect in the one-touch folding third-row seats that could trap passengers. The luxury EV's one-touch power-folding third-row power seats stop when they encounter an obstruction, but don't automatically reverse, creating the potential for a passenger or object to become trapped.

According to the Safety Recall Report issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), GM conducted an evaluation of the third-row power seatback folding function on a 2026 Cadillac Vistiq, with the evaluation being prompted by the March 2026 announcement of a recall by a different vehicle manufacturer. Although the other manufacturer isn’t named in the Cadillac recall notice, it is likely Hyundai; the Korean carmaker recalled the Palisade in March after a two-year-old in Ohio was killed after being trapped by the power-folding second-row seat.

The Cadillac Vistiq evaluation included placing a 33-to-40-pound box on the seat and initiating the power fold operation. Engineers discovered that the seat stopped, but failed to reverse direction. The result was that the box was unable to be removed without manually reversing the seat back. Smaller occupants could become trapped under the seatback in this scenario.

GM claims that there have been six complaints potentially related to this condition, although no injuries were reported. Dealers will ultimately need to replace the folding third row seat module, however, the fix is not yet available. In the meantime, owners may have the third-row folding feature disabled.

Once the remedy is available, the folding feature will be reinstated and updated through a separate customer satisfaction campaign. The fix will involve replacing the seat module with an updated version that automatically returns the seatback toward its upright position if it encounters enough resistance to stop the folding operation. Owners are to be notified of the recall via a mailing campaign expected to begin on August 3, 2026.
