Audi has unveiled its latest supercar, the Nuvolari, boasting nearly 1000 horsepower and a range of innovative features inspired by Formula 1. The Nuvolari is named after the famous Italian race car driver Tazio Nuvolari and is the latest addition to Audi's lineup of high-performance vehicles.
The Audi Nuvolari is powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 engine, aided by three axial flux electric motors. Two of the motors are located on the front axle, while the third is integrated with the transmission. The combined output of the powertrain is 987 horsepower, with 800 horsepower coming from the V-8 engine alone. The Nuvolari also features a stratospheric 10,000 rpm redline and can accelerate from 0-62 mph in just 2.6 seconds.
The Nuvolari's electric motors play a key role in its handling prowess, enabling torque vectoring to assist cornering and stability. The electric motors also assist heavily in braking, with brake recuperation. Fully electric driving is possible thanks to a small 7.3-kilowatt-hour battery pack. The Nuvolari's braking system uses a brake-by-wire approach and features a new Audi Ceramic Pro setup, with 10-piston front calipers and four-piston rears.
The Nuvolari's structure is made up of a new Audi Space Frame, with almost all exterior components manufactured from carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP). The car's body is painted in a titanium hue, a new color that Audi believes is the best shade to highlight the car's lines and interact with the carbon elements. The wheels are the first example of a forged centerlock design on a car with the four rings.
