Audi has confirmed the A4 e-tron for 2028, built on the new SSP platform, targeting electric BMW i3 and Mercedes C-Class. The A4 e-tron will be one of the first volume models from the Volkswagen Group to fully utilize the new SSP platform, which is expected to bring improvements in efficiency and range.
Audi's Technology Director, Rouven Mohr, confirmed that there is "no reason to correct" the previously stated market launch in 2028. The A4 e-tron is expected to be the first Audi to fully exploit the potential of the SSP platform, which may include a unified battery architecture, new zonal electronics, and other improvements.
The A4 e-tron will also feature Audi's new design language, "Radical Next," and a new interior concept that combines digital functions with classic control elements like buttons and rotary controllers. The development of the model is being carried out according to the "Project House" approach, which aims to reduce development times.
The confirmation of the timeline is notable, given that the A4 e-tron has been associated with delays in software development within the Volkswagen Group. Last year, Manager Magazin reported that challenges in the software joint venture with Rivian had pushed back the market launch to the end of 2028.
