Mitsubishi's subcompact SUV will now start at $25,505, which is $1,500 less than last year's least expensive model. Looking for a truly affordable new car in this economy can be like trying to find something expensive at Walmart. Not only is there a growing shortage of sub-$30,000 vehicles, but new cars and SUVs usually get more expensive year over year.
However, that's not the case with the 2027 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport. The admittedly aging subcompact crossover is once again available with front-wheel drive, which basically represents a $1,500 discount. For 2027, the Outlander Sport now starts at $25,505. That's for the base-level S trim with FWD, but last year, it was only available with all-wheel drive and started at $27,005.
While that configuration is no longer available, the least expensive AWD Outlander Sport is the ES, which now starts at $28,605. Of course, if you can live without the extra rear-axle traction and want something better equipped than the base model, you can get a '27 Outlander Sport for between $27,105 and $29,595.
Every Outlander Sport except the top-of-the-line SEL features a 148-hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder. The fanciest model features a 168-hp 2.4-liter four-banger, which is notably underpowered compared with turbocharged rivals like the 190-hp Kia Sportage and the 250-hp Mazda CX-30. A continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) is also standard across the board.
For those who still find the Mitsubishi appealing but want a more distinct aesthetic, the AWD-only Ralliart and Trail Edition trim levels start at $31,620 and $31,965, respectively.
