See the exterior design of the hardcore McLaren 788HS from every angle. The McLaren 788HS arrives as the latest high-performance model on the brand's mid-engine V-8 platform, taking the 750S to the extreme with new aerodynamic elements and more power.
The 788HS continues to employ McLaren's familiar twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 engine. In the 788HS, the V-8 produces 777 horsepower, up by 37 from the 750S, and 590 pound-feet of torque. McLaren says it can accelerate to 60 mph in 2.8 seconds and reach 124 mph in 7.0 seconds.
The top speed is listed at 205 mph, and the dry weight is a claimed 2789 pounds. The other big changes come with the aerodynamics, with McLaren fitting a new raised active rear wing and a diffuser inspired by learnings from the company's F1 race cars. Up front, a new S-duct in the hood directs air over the cabin to that rear wing, and there's also a redesigned front splitter.
McLaren upgraded the brakes with carbon-ceramic rotors and six-piston forged aluminum monoblock calipers. The 788HS also becomes the first car in the lineage of the 720S to feature center-lock wheels. Only 200 units will be produced, with McLaren planning 100 coupes and 100 convertibles.
