2027 Chevy Express and GMC Savana Vans Finally Get Touchscreens

General Motors' aging commercial vans, the Chevy Express and GMC Savana, are getting a tech upgrade that's been standard in most other vehicles for over a decade—a touchscreen display. According to Chevrolet's vehicle order guide, the new Chevy Express and GMC Savana commercial vans will enter the 2027 model year with a new touchscreen infotainment system. The system isn’t exactly new, as a touchscreen was briefly offered once before in 2019, but it was only available for one model year before it got pulled off the table.

Since then, Expresses and Savanas have had a two-speaker audio system that could pair with an AM/FM radio, MP3 player, aux cord, or USB port. Bluetooth was available, but only as an optional upgrade. The 2027 model year will finally bring a taste of modern tech to the vans in the form of a 7.0-inch touchscreen. The head unit will run GM’s Infotainment System 3, which was introduced in other GM vehicles for the 2020 model year.

This is a dated version of the bow-tie brand’s current infotainment capabilities, and the only confirmed features in the Express and Savana so far are Bluetooth phone connectivity and audio streaming. Other features, including Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and USB connectivity, haven't been confirmed yet. Passenger models and vans equipped with the Crew Van package are doubling their speaker count, which brings the total speaker count up to a humble four. The Cargo and chassis-cab models of the vans are stuck with just two speakers.

Historically, the twin vans have stood as an effective example of offering only what's needed to get a job done. The new(ish) infotainment system adds just a touch of convenience to a van that’s long been lauded for its practicality and simplicity. Aside from the touchscreen and a change in production location to GM’s Wentzville Assembly plant, the robust vans will enter 2027 unchanged with a starting price of just over $45,000.
