Along with the introduction of the fifth-generation X5 SUV, BMW is launching an electric variant called iX5. Like its gas and hybrid siblings, the 2027 iX5 SUV rides on BMW's new Neue Klasse platform. This mid-size luxury SUV is powered by a 570-hp dual-motor powertrain. Driving range is generous at up to 435 miles per charge.
The iX5's battery is large at 144 kWh, but with a DC fast-charging connection, BMW claims it can charge from 10 to 80 percent in as little as 22 minutes. Exterior styling is bold and follows the same formula as the gas and hybrid X5 models. The interior is plush and modern, with a lot of screens, including one that runs the entire width of the windshield.
The iX5 is a two-row mid-size SUV with plenty of interior space for four adults to get comfy. Despite its luxury bent, the iX5 should be a performer too. BMW claims a 0-60 mph time in as little as 4.4 seconds. We recently had a chance to test drive a prototype iX5, and we noted that its acceleration was swift and its handling was precise.
The BMW iX5 will go on sale in the first quarter of 2027 and start at $81,250 before options. With its impressive performance, luxurious interior, and generous driving range, the iX5 is sure to be a strong contender in the electric luxury SUV market.
